I make my own all-natural, moisturizing dog shampoo. Most of you know, I have two precious Chihuahuas, Eli and Bella. They are 8 years old and they have my heart. I want them to be as healthy as possible. I feed them a raw food diet consisting of organic meat, fruits and veggies. They even drink filtered water. You may be wondering why a dog shampoo recipe is included in my health and fitness blog. Well... I write about the things that I'm passionate about and the health of my fur babies is extremely important to me. Also, I try to use the most natural, holistic approach in all areas of my life, including pet care, and I know many of you do the same and would find this post useful.
Eli has been biting at the base of his tail and showing signs of dander. Bella has a reoccurring grass allergy and her belly is red and itchy. It's definitely bath time!
It's not something they enjoy, however. Eli can hear me think about it and he darts under the bed. Ha!
All of the ingredients are natural and healthy and even healing for dogs. I wouldn't use anything else.
The ingredients are as follows:
Dr. Bronner's Castille Soap- an all-natural, gentle, vegetable based, chemical free soap.
Organic Coconut Oil- extremely moisturizing for their skin and has countless other healing benefits for us and them.
Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar- helps control odor and promotes skin health.
Lavender Essential Oil - Moisturizing benefits and skin conditioning
Rosemary Essential Oil - Natural Flea Repellant qualities
Here's the Recipe:
1 1/2 cups of warm water
1 tbs. of organic coconut oil
1/4 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar
4 tbs. of liquid Castille Soap
3 drops of Rosemary essential oil
3 drops of Lavender essential oil
- Mix ingredients in a glass jar and shake!
- It should have the look and consistency of milk.
- If you have bigger dogs, you may want to double the recipe!
- Avoid getting the shampoo in their eyes
- Don't expect Castille soap to lather up like regular soap
- They can look somewhat greasy/shiny from the coconut oil. It lessens as it soaks in.
They smell so good and are flea free. I can't help but kiss their faces off every chance I get. I guess I sorta do that anyway. `
All natural flea repellant: Add 5 drops of Rosemary essential oil in a small glass spray bottle with fractionated coconut oil (liquid at room temperature) and apply daily. You can also put a couple of drops of rosemary on your dog's collar or in their bed. Do not apply the oil directly to the skin without a carrier oil.

I hope you have found this helpful. I'd love to hear about your own dogs and how you bathe them.
